Betty’s Quilt with Sally’s Shoes

This is the first time I have entered any of your contests.  This is also the first time I have done a large quilt.  This is a twin size quilt for one of my grandchildren.  I have 6 of them and 5 of them are girls.
I have bought several designs from your site but when I first saw the Sally King shoes I fell in love with them.  I used the Sally King Calendar Shoes 2014 part 1 & 2 to do this quilt.  I have since bought the other sets and will be making another quilt since my little girls love shoes.  The ice cream shoe has been tweaked a little since I took off the milk shake portion of it in my software.  It was just a little much and I liked it better without the shake on the end of the shoe.
When I started sewing out the designs I put them on different colors of fabric looking at the thread  colors I was going to use in the shoes.  Some of the shoes are done in different colors then were selected by the designer and to me that is the creative part of sewing.  When I was all done I had all these different colored blocks to try and put in one quilt.  I then had to find a color for my sashings  and border that went with all the designs.  I will do the next quilt different since I learned what not to do with this one.  But it was so much fun stitching them out I kind of got carried away.
They are all stitched on a good quality cotton fabric.  The gal that quilted the quilt (Cheryl Ferris) looked at each design and quilted around each design pulling in the theme of each shoe.  She did a fantastic job on it I thought.

Donna’s Under the Sea Wall Hanging

Hi, This  is my Under the Sea Wall Hanging. I used designs from your Under the Sea Designs. I loved doing this and want to do another. I even have the background fabrics pieced together and want to use some of the other under the sea designs I purchased from you. I used mostly batiks for the background and other kinds of fabrics for the appliqué. I also used some fuzzy yarns and real shells for embellishments.

I think I like yours better than mine Donna!  LOL Great job.  Suz

A present for a new baby who’s room is decorated with a solar system theme. To make this in software I created a 12″ by 24″ frame and then placed the planets and words in.  Once that was done then I had to figure out how to hoop and sew everything out.  The fabric is Linen.

Sandy’s Under the Sea Wall Hangings

These wall hangings are made from the BFC120 Undersea set. I was going to make a large wall hanging but things happen so made 2 small hangings and mounted them on canvas boards. The pieces were done separately and attached to the back ground when done.

Marsha’s Cardinal Wall Hanging

This is my Cardinal wallhanging that I did using your A Cardinal window designs.  My 9 year old granddaughter requested a cardinal picture for her room because her elementary school mascot is a cardinal.  I’ve stitched this design several times & framed it but decided to try a wallhanging for her.

First, I fused the black fairy frost “frame”  onto the red fairy frost background.  I stitched the blocks on white fairy frost then fused them onto the background using  strips of fairy frost in white for the “window” frame.   I sandwiched it with quilter’s fleece for batting & a black backing.  Then I used free motion stippling around the red part with machine blanket stitching around the black frame & all of the white strips.  Edges are bound with black fairy frost bias binding.  There are triangles mounted withe binding at the corners in back that hold thin balsa strips horizontally across the top & bottom to keep it lying flat & taut.  I chose this method because I know her little hands will be all over it & it’ll need laundering at some point.   There’s also a label on the back with the name of the design, BFC as designer and my name as stitcher with the date.  It mounts to the wall with the Command velcro strips balsa wood.

Pictures don’t show the sparkle of the fairy frost through the embroidery stitches very well, but it really turned out well & she loved it.   Thanks so much for the designs & the contest!

I would like to submit my wall hanging for your contest. After many months it was finally done and hung in our parish Church during Lent..I didn’t mean it to when  I showed it to our Parish Priest but he insisted.    After many tries with trying to take a picture and not have a flash come up in the  middle of each view, these are the best. Hope they turn out okay for submission.
I used ivory Linen on top, 1 layer of non-tear away  for the stabilizer, and then put   a layer of warm & natural over the stabilizer after I sewed on the borders of black velvet.
The frame is dark walnut and helps it all to come together.
Thank you for the joy I had in making this although I know it took me forever to complete
it. Well worth the effort.. Now I am excited to embroider the Assention.. I know I am
slow but at 80 years I guess it is just a way of life…at least I’m still kicking.
If these pictures are not coming through well enough to use, I can try to take them over.
