This is my entry for the hummingbird contest. Hummingbird designs used were 08,09,10,11,12,14,15,16 from the medium size and 43 from the jumbo size.
Additional designs used were BFC98024-Fantasy Butterflies & Flowers, BFC95991-Flowery Scrappy Art Quilt, BFC1159-01 & 02 -Italian Rose Window.
I used QIH method.
My main fabric was micro suede with cotton on the back. I used a layer of felt under the micro suede for a very light quilted effect. One layer of tear away stabilizer.
Working in my software I used the petal and centre parts of the Italian Rose Window & eliminated all but the QIH stitching lines and the final satin stitching. I added the background design from the Fantasy Butterflies & Flowers, then a hummingbird to each petal & then combined them. For the centre design I used a design from the Flowery Scrappy Art quilt for the background.
After stitching all the designs I satin stitched them all together and hand stitched a braid around the outside edges to finish it off. This is going to be a retirement gift for my sister so I added a small thread hanger to the back so this can be used either as a table topper or hung up as a wall hanging, whichever she prefers to use it as.
