Judy’s Fiber Arts

Hi Suz,

I am just so flattered that you would use my work for your stash page.

I just remembered that there is one more quilt that I used BFC stash charms.  In The Woods, I used the little leaf beads around the border and then I broke up some of the tiny wooden beads to look like rocks on the path.  It was my first landscape quilt.  Taken from a shot of the woods in Northern Ireland.  I am sending it along for you to see.

I learned from this quilt that a fussy border distracts from the image.  The close up without the border is more interesting, I think.  Do you agree?

I am just so damn pleased that you like my work!   I love these Judy! Suz

Laura’s Mountain Lion

From Laura:

I finished and framed, [quilted and bound] your BFC’s design,1496- Large Mountain Lion, and it is Awesome!  I intend to use a small, natural branch and raw ride shoe laces as the hanger.

I did not have all the correct colors of thread.  I was missing 2731-Hemp and 2793-Camel, substituted the best I could and wa-la, an awesome big cat.  I think this would have turned out better if I had used the correct colors, but using the golden brown border fabric pulled out the browner tones of the puma and not the taupe tones.  All in all, I am pleased with the results.

I would warn anyone intending to do this embroidery, it is time consuming!  Although the 5 parts of this design are easily matched, each section has 11-21 color changes and is stitch intensive.  I actually used 2 layers of Warm and Natural batting under the stitch out.  First I used a fusible, woven interfacing to stiffen the fabric, then quilted it to the first layer of batting, then placed the second layer of batting under the design area before I started to stitch.  I used a size 14 top stitch needle, and all went well there after.  I also used 2 layers of tear-away stabilizer in the hoop.  I would rather have a bit much in the under layers than not enough and have to deal with puckers in the top fabric.

Thanks for about the hundreth time for all the work you and Fred do on all of BFC’s incredible designs. Until next time, happy stitching!

As always a gorgeous job, Laura!  Suz  I lik the colors with the border.

BFC31690 Our Sweet Owl at Christmas

Happy Holidays!

Laura

Just wanted to show you my pillow..The orange coloration of this dragon looks beautiful against the eggplant colored  faux suede.  I used your variegated thread, Creamsickle, to sew on the 1/4 inch bias trim, and thought that would be the name I would choose for this dragon.  One Christmas present done, just a couple more to go.  Hope you had a joyous Thanksgiving.  Thanks, Laura

BFC31692 Delights Amber Dragon in 5 sizes

Two out of three Christmas presents, done. Yeah!  I love this kitten.  It makes me smile whenever I look at it.  I hope it will do the same for my friend, Evelyn, in assisted living.  She loves cats.  I recently gave her an embroidery I did of your Large Mountain Lion, and she loved it.  She grew up in Wisconsin and her father used to train dogs to hunt the big cats.  It brought back great memories for her.  I’m hoping this kitty will bring back much gentler memories.

I did this embroidery on black velvet, with the knapp going up.  It was much darker that way.  I backed it with black, fusible fleece and used a tear-away stabilizer, and a size 14 top-stitch needle, no problems at all.  Until next time,

Thanks a bunch, Laura

BFC1095 Window-Kitten in a Bowl

Good Morning, it is a good morning, indeed.  I finished my “Christmas present sewing project list”, and wanted you to see the finished project.  I am naturally not a quilter, I love clothing making and embroidery, however at times I do break my own mould and do some simple quilting.  Here is an example.  I had all the fabric, not bought at the same time, and they went together beautifully.  Yeah for stash-building.  I had ferns in mind when I chose the fabric.  Your fern program, BFC505 was just the ticket!

Because the fabric was pieced and quilted to batting and I used a pretty substantial stabilizer, I used a size 14 top stitch needle.  However I started having loops show up within the stitching on both the top and underneath the design. I believe the large fern frond has about 39,000 stitches, and they are small, so I thought the needle might be too large for the small stitches.  I changed to a size 12 top-stitch needle and nary one more loop formed.  We live and learn.

Although the violets in the design were a freebee from years ago, and I know not where it came from, I believe your ferns are the star of the show.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Laura’s Christmas Tree

Hi Suz,   Enclosed as promised, picture of the BFC1384-17 QIH Christmas Tree.   Glad I chose the middle sized ornament – the small would have been even more of a nightmare to trim round!   I’ve yet to get rid of the last bits of washaway around the edges by using a paintbrush/sponge.   The washaway on the back can stay.   Probably will use this to make a Christmas card.

It’s a lovely design, so I’ll look for some glitter fabric to make a larger tree.

Best wishes, Laura

Elizabeth’s Quilt

Hello Sue,

Just thought I would email you a couple of pics of my quilt, using your wonderful designs.  I am a friend of Vicki Purnell, she only lives a good stones throw from me.  I have made several of her wonderful quilts, using your designs.  The fabric is mostly batik, unfortunately I cannot remember the particular name of it.  Something like Lemon………..?  It has been waiting to be quilted for quite a while and I finally got around to doing it a couple of weeks ago.

Bye for now, & thank you for being so generous with your designs.

Faye’s great idea

Hello Suz,

Attached is a picture of candle wraps, sewn on tulle, that I made using designs from your 13th Anniversary set in 2016.  They are perfect  for this idea for stitching on tulle because they are fill stitches.

They look great Faye and such an easy but unique gift! Suz
